Norco Choirs Logo 2018

New Logo for Norco High School Choirs

Screen Shot 2018-07-13 at 11.46.05 AMNorco High School Choirs gets a new logo.

Last year, Norco High School got a new choir director. With the change in leadership they needed a new identity for their choirs.

The director wanted music notes included, in addition to something that looked elegant and would serve as a branding mark for the choir program.

This new branding identity will be displayed on all future wearables and marketing materials.

In creating successful logos we look to keep that as simple as possible, all the while making them memorable. You don’t have to include every aspect of your program, organization or business into your logo.  Clutter is not a good thing.  Simple & memorable.

Another very important factor is scalability.  The logo should keep its integrity whether large or small, whether on a shirt or on stationary, or fitting as a profile image on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

Below you will see a some of the wearables that Norco Choirs will be making available this season.  There are more spirit items that will be announced soon, including stickers and magnets.

In addition to this new Norco Choir logo, we are currently working on two other new logos, for two different organizations, that we will be announcing soon.

Magazine Cover Design

Magazine Design

Magazine Cover DesignHave to brag on my students for their latest work – Magazine Design.  They were given a lot of freedom.  I wanted them to be passionate about the subject matter.  That said, they needed to produce some authentic looking designs, and I think they did a fantastic job.

From image(s), to typography, color theory, to content matter – they had free reign based on what they have learned these last 9 months.

I so glad that a number of students have chosen to pursue careers in the creative fields.  Expect to see some great designs in the near future.  Heck, here are some great designs.

Band Camp Logo

The Bands of Santiago High School (BOSS) is an award-winning music program that, every year, conducts a Band Camp just prior to the start of Marching Band Competition Season, and they needed a new logo. Over the last season I took photographs of nearly every event that BOSS participated in.  Thus, I had plenty of pictures to select from.

Initially, we considered using a collage of pictures in a set frame that could be used in print and on the web.  We had done this before and it worked quite well but, we needed something different.  Instead, I took a number of photos that I thought would work well and used a TEXT CUTOUT to create the final logo.

I also thought that the logo needed to communicate ‘education’ so I selected a font that had a collegiate feel to it.  This font is similar to other communication mediums used by the school and is also similar to the LETTERS that the students can earn.

If you are in need of a logo please contact us.  We would love to serve you.

Graphic Design for BOSS

Programs All - webThe 2015-2016 BOSS (Bands of Santiago Sharks) Season offered some wonderful Graphic Design opportunities. The goal was to expand the design aspect of the programs and offer a keepsake versus just an informational piece.  This was achieved by creating unique, professional looking covers as well as filling the program with candid photos (3 Penguins Photography) of the musicians performing throughout the year.

The programs ranged in size from 18 to 22 pages.  The covers were all 4/4 with grey-scale content.

BOSS comprises 8 different bands plus the Marching Band. These award-winning bands have performed at Carnegie Hall, Pearl Harbor, marched in the Rose Parade, and competed in numerous Jazz and Band competitions. They have set a high standard for music and their print should reflect that same high standard.

Whether you’re an award-winning band, dance troupe, theater group, sports team or any other type of organization, you shouldn’t have to skimp on quality.  How you communicate in your graphic design, logos and branding serves an important role in how you are perceived.

Do you represent yourself as a professional or as someone who doesn’t really care? What I mean by “not caring” is – if your graphic representation is sloppy with poorly designed programs and/or ads, filled with inaccurate or misspelled information – you come across as not caring about quality.  If that is how you are perceived, then the logical next step is that people won’t want to join you.

We would love to help you raise your standard.  Give us a call today. 714.225.7674

Santiago Jazz Spring Concert Cover

Spring Jazz Program

Santiago Jazz Spring Concert CoverThe Santiago Spring Jazz Program went to print.  For the past school year I’ve had the honor and pleasure of designing (and photographing) all the programs for the award-winning Bands of Santiago Sharks.  This program you see here, is the last Jazz Concert of the season.  (Fall Jazz Program Cover) I set out to design something atypical from the “normal” high school programs.  Plus, as a Graphic Design professor at CBU (California Baptist University), my students mid-term assignment was to design a Jazz Concert Poster – so I was in the zone, I guess.

In putting together my mood board for this project, I noticed a lot of dark colors, busy backgrounds and classic “JAZZ” photos. It quickly became apparent that this was NOT the direction I wanted to take.

First, NO BUSYNESS.  I went with a white background, with lots of negative space.  I then went to find a way to represent a typical Jazz instrument in a new was.  I drew circles to formulate different instruments, but, to me, only the sax worked.  I selected 3 colors and changed up the colors of the circles, in a random pattern.

Since the sax took on a kind of “techno” feel I went out in search of a font that shared that voice.  I borrowed from the same color palette as the circles and – I cover was born.

Only the cover, inside cover, back inside and back cover are in color.  I chose NOT to run the circle theme throughout the inside since, in black, it just cluttered things up. The inside of the front and back covers are photos I took (3PenguinsPhotography.com) of both the Santiago High School and Citrus Hills Intermediate School jazz bands.

Jazz Band Concert Program

BOSS Jazz ConcertHad to pleasure of being asked to design the Jazz Band Concert program for the award winning Bands Of Santiago Sharks (BOSS). The concert consists of 3 jazz bands and 2 bands from Riverside City College.

Putting together the program is relatively simple as long as we got all the names of the musicians in a timely fashion, whiBOSS Jazz Concertch we did thanks to the BOSS staff.

The don’t have set logo or cover header that they wanted to use.  We chose this font that resembled the keys of a piano, giving it that ‘musical’ feel.

Our challenge was photographs.  Since this is the first Jazz Concert of the season we had no photographs of the bands performing. To get around this wall, I was able to shoot some rehearsals.  Due to the band not being dressed in their tuxedos I chose to shoot close-ups of the instruments with a hint of faces, in some.  This gave the ‘feel’ on a concert without having prior access to a concert. Some of the photographs can be seen at 3 Penguins Photography.

The cover is 4-color glossy whereas the content is grey-scale.

This program is very important to parents of these young musicians.  These a memory keepsakes so making sure that everyone’s names are not only included but also spelled correctly is paramount.  Detail is VERY important.

Retirement Community – flyer brochure

Print flyer - Brochure for Retirement communityRetirement Community – These two flyers, or brochures, were created, as templates, for two different retirement communities – by Joe Randeen | 3 Penguins Design.

The target market – active retiriees looking for a community where there are plenty of choices for active living. The images were chosen to represent that in mind.

The bi-fold design was chosen as the best layout for it’s intended purpose.

The brochure was designed in Adobe’s InDesign.

Church Media Page (Online Sermons) Graphic

Effective and clear communication in both written and graphical forms is essential for websites & blogs.  Visitors don’t stay around long enough to search through the vastness that engulfs many online sites today.

These final four graphics where design for a church media page, specifically for their online sermons.  The graphic was necessary, not only to identify the page for visitors but for a graphic that will embed into social media posts.

Colors came from branded color palette.
